I loved the atmosphere of the event. On a personal level I was not overly impressed with my work (it's definitely not going on the wall!) I thought the teacher Aman, was lovely.

I appreciated learning about Stephen's technique to distill the elements from a photograph to create an abstract painting. He took us through the journey of creating an original abstracted work referencing but not copying a photograph. The iterative process had us looking at the photograph and memorising it, then putting it aside and creating a small scale drawing to capture what we remembered. This interpretive and creative process was repeated, producing a series of drawings to inform the essential elements for the final work.

I really enjoyed the session, gaining practical insight into using watercolour pencils. Stephen was a wonderful host, spending time with each participant and sharing his knowledge of utilising this medium. The Botanical Gardens was a great venue, offering an endless range of ideas and inspiration.

Stephen was lovely and very knowledgeable, but 12 people in a cold damp outdoor setting many of whom including me was a total beginner was a bit much I think

Loved the location. One on one was very useful. Although it is for beginners as well as people with some experience I felt a little out of my depth and trying to play catch up. It would be useful to go back to basics to then build on the techniques. I think I would find it more useful sketching a particular object rather than an imagined one and building the basics from there.

I painted this scene for a dear friend as an engagement gift. It's a scene from their European adventures in 2023. I've been experimenting with looser, freer clouds lately and this image was perfect for that exploration.

30x30cm Acrylic paint and pens on canvas board. I wanted to paint a bee on a flower. My normal process is to hunt for a photo, put it in Photoshop and modify it until I have something I like. This time I used Adobe's Firefly AI program. Having a background in graphic design I know about composition, colours and creative software. So after lots of prompt re-writes, I came to a source image that I would like to paint. It's not as easy as people think. It's like being a director in a film o
