I loved the atmosphere of the event. On a personal level I was not overly impressed with my work (it's definitely not going on the wall!) I thought the teacher Aman, was lovely.

I appreciated learning about Stephen's technique to distill the elements from a photograph to create an abstract painting. He took us through the journey of creating an original abstracted work referencing but not copying a photograph. The iterative process had us looking at the photograph and memorising it, then putting it aside and creating a small scale drawing to capture what we remembered. This interpretive and creative process was repeated, producing a series of drawings to inform the essential elements for the final work.

I really enjoyed the session, gaining practical insight into using watercolour pencils. Stephen was a wonderful host, spending time with each participant and sharing his knowledge of utilising this medium. The Botanical Gardens was a great venue, offering an endless range of ideas and inspiration.

Stephen was lovely and very knowledgeable, but 12 people in a cold damp outdoor setting many of whom including me was a total beginner was a bit much I think

That was a relaxed and enjoyable experience. It was great to receive tips, wisdom, and one-on-one advice from an accomplished artist. I'd definitely recommend Stephen's class.

Loved the location. One on one was very useful. Although it is for beginners as well as people with some experience I felt a little out of my depth and trying to play catch up. It would be useful to go back to basics to then build on the techniques. I think I would find it more useful sketching a particular object rather than an imagined one and building the basics from there.

The beginner's drawing class was relaxed, fun and really educational. Stephen was a great teacher who has a great supportive vibe. He really knows his stuff! In the 2 hours, I noticed a big difference in my drawing ability. Definitely would recommend the class to others!

I have always liked to draw and after an accident that left me with a disability I focused more on art. It has given me great pleasure to be able to paint our wildlife. The yellow tailed black cockatoo is just one of the beautiful birds our country has. This piece is done with acrylic on canvas board.

I painted this work using a photo taken by a photographer from Albany. His name is Matt Laughton and he takes the most amazing closeups of birds. I like doing bird portraits so you can look in the Birds Eye and see what he is thinking. Love painting eyes. I have a magpie who visits me and looks like the painting. I call her Maggie.

This piece was hand carved by me using knives and gouges in my shop in Zachary LaThis piece is done in Alaskan Cottonwood Bark. The bark is only harvest from dead trees. The best bark comes from a cold weather climate where it grows thick to help protect the tree. This is what?s known as a wood spirit carving loosely based off the medieval myth that sprits were in the woods to protect the forest. Travelers would carve faces in their walking sticks to please the spirits for safe passage th
